Dr. Herbert L. Ponder is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is married to Lorae Ponder. Dr. and Mrs. Ponder are the proud parents of a daughter and son.

He has been the pastor of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church since 1994 where the Lord has sent him to Equip the Saints for the Work of Ministry. His primary concern has been preaching and teaching the gospel so that all persons can experience the transformation that comes with a relationship with Jesus the Christ.

Dr. Ponder holds earned degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting; and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University where he earned both the Master of Divinity degree and Doctor of Ministry degree. He also received a certificate of achievement from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA.

He is involved with numerous community and denominational organizations including, The Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Richmond and Vicinity, The Baptist General Convention of Virginia, The Baptist General Association of Virginia, The African American Fellowship of Virginia Baptists/SBC, The Richmond Baptist Association and The Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia, Inc.

Pastor Ponder is a child of God that lives each day with the intent of Making a Difference for the Kingdom of God.
